Affirmative Action Is Not Necessary - 1511 Words
The purpose of affirmative action is to allow equal access to employment to create a workforce that reflects the demographics of a qualified workforce in the relevant job market for all minorities, people with disabilities and women (Human Resources). It wasnââ¬â¢t until President Nixon who proposed the Philadelphia Plan that imposed racial hiring quotas on the cityââ¬â¢s construction industry, affirmative action then became an issue of race causing the cases of reverse racism to rise ( Kahlenberg 2 ). Though as a country most of the citizens would like to believe that affirmative action is not needed because of great advancements made considering the election of the first black president. Affirmative action is still needed in the United States inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦An example of this educational gap was in the New York schooling system. Where blacks and Hispanics ââ¬Å"make up about 71 percent of public and charter school students citywide, they received just 12 pe rcent of specialized high school students in 2003 ( Leonie, Ravitch 2). One of the causes this of disparity is the difference in schools. According pew research there is a difference between schools in the suburban which are made up of mostly white children and inner city schools made up of mostly minorities like Hispanics and African Americans. The suburban schools which according to pew research center is mostly white and the inner city schools which are mostly made up of the other minorities (Citation 3). Staring with the quality of teachers, according to Pitre ââ¬Å"unqualified teachers are disproportionately assigned to teach low-income ethnic minority childrenâ⬠(Pitre 5). An example of this difference is in the state of California where it was found that in the most segregated schools there ââ¬Å"were more than five times as likely to have an uncertified teacherâ⬠(Pitre 5).The importance of teachers in the schools, especially teachers who teach young children is invaluable. According to Cowan Pitre ââ¬Å"the issue of access to a high quality teacher is important because research has consistently identified teacher quality as the most important school-based factor in student achievementâ⬠( 5). Marketing, is defined as the process in which products produced and services offered focused upon fulfilling customers wants and needs. An example of these process includes; product promotion, service distribution, advertisement, and lastly management of products. In marketing, it is categorized into diverse branches and each branch has its major specialization. The branches in marketing are; business marketing also referred to as industrial marketing. Environmental marketing, international marketing, and multi-level marketing. An example of not-for- profit marketing includes; service marketing, destination marketing, retailing services, social marketing, and cause related marketing. In the essay below is focused on the understanding on the nature of the service marketing and its conceptual framework. Understanding the Nature of Service Marketing In business operations entrepreneur are faced by challenges throughout, Due to the existence of competition and the challenges preventing them from realizing their goals, business individuals and companies choose to rely on measures that relieve them from this situation and put them in greater market level. With the current times we living in, business platforms are the best way one can opt for in order to be successful. However, these platforms require full determination, hard work, and commitment (Roland 2014 p.67). Moreover, it is safe to say that for any business to gain profits and succeed in its endeavors, good connection between the producer and the consumer of the service must be evident. Because of the good connection between the two, it comes with an advantage to the companies with diverse branches, that depend on the attention of the consumers. It is evident to say that most successful people tend to inspire the have-nots, inthe provision of moral support and determination to make as they have. Service marketing is at times referred to as business to consumer and business to business services (Daniel 2008 p.40).Talking of business to business, this is where products from the producers are introduced to the market and sold in order to improve and maintain the existence of another business. Most business individuals practice the method as its argued to be un avoidable. With its number of advantages and disadvantages it offers, this type of marketing strategy is considered t be unique, depending on the type of services it offers in the consumer market. Just to mention of an instance, when a business individual wants to buy a product from another producer, he or she will ensure that the products will be of good quality, as the success of their business depends on the quality of the products that is acquired. Business to consumer are defined as retails, involves direct interaction between the consumer and the producer. Retail a term typically applied in a situation where the service provider is needed to fill a certain number of orders to a specific crowd of people. The orders are mostly small quantities in to accommodate a large crowd of consumers. This is a great practice by the business producers as they can be able to control the prices of the goods depending on the consumers rate of acquiring them. Most of the goods available at this branch of service, are referred to as the final good, which at most incidences it includes general human necessities. GAPS Model of Service, in Service Marketing Also known as the five-page model, the gap model of service quality is an important aspect to be considered by business individuals against satisfaction of customer framework. It is a tool that can be used by different business organization in the current market structure in the diversification strategy. With the current increase in the demands by the consumers, producers are under pressure to produce quality products that satisfy the consumers needs. The introduction of GAP model has had a great impact in the competitive market present. Its main aim, that facilitated its formation include; Identify opportunities between the needy consumers and the services to be provided at the different stages of the delivery and to close the gap present and by so improving the customer services offered. To highlight this gaps in the quality services, they are enlisted as of different stage in their relevance to service marketing. One of the gap is; The customer gap. Also referred to as the differences between the consumers expectations needs and the perceptions hindering them. Expectations is facilitated by the current environment and available resources whereas perceptions are subjects based on the customers interaction with the services offered. Second gap is the knowledge gap or in other words the gap between the consumers expectations and the management perceptions (Roland 2014 p.91). In this case, the managers of the products upon production of a product or service offered to consumers, the actual knowledge is lacked by the producers if the product really satisfies their demands or they are meeting wrong consumer needs. It is important to have the consumer need before production. Third gap is the policy gap or the gap between management perceptions and specifications of service quality. Not all companies are good in the interpretation of customers expectation, as some translate the policy of the service marketing as rules and regulations meant for its employees. This gap maybe influential in the current market competition as consumers may seek a similar product with better services elsewhere. Forth gap is the delivery gap. A gap that is effective in exposing weakness in performance by an employee. Through this, the organization will be encouraged to train their employees by putting good guidelines and as a result an individual will be equipped to manage human wants and an ability to deliver effectively. Communication between service delivery and externally, is the final fifth gap. Communication a factor considered in the successfully running of a business (Kapoor 2011 p.65) Promises offered by business organizations through variety of communication means tend to raise the customers expectations on the product or service. However, it is considered as a gap when the product is overpromised and the expected results do not match with the promised ones. In marketing service, proper running of a business service depends on the expectations of the consumers. The organizations to be successful it needs to meet or exceed these expectations. However not all can be able to achieve this, so they opt for the management of the expectations. The most effective way of managing expectation or trying to avoid higher customer expectations and still retaining them is through avoiding the provision of poor services. With the current evolution of the world we leaving in, expectations are as well evolving as the consumers are now able to connect with companies through many improved ways. Being referred to as a key in service marketing it is important for an organization to put it in consideration. Conclusion In conclusion, in order for effective management of a product by an organization, complex strategies must be put in consideration before undertaking any activity. With the knowledge of the current market structure by an individual, one can be able to plan on creating the best product and operation excellence with the aim of fulfilling the customers needs and making them demand more for the product. Additional, realizing of the available gap and aiming to close it by a business individual, enables him or her to be able to produce high customer services as it narrows their gap of achieving their goals. Love Calls Us to the Things of This World free essay sample
Wilbur is a poem about our reason for living. The reason we get up every morning and go about our day according to Wilbur is love. The title of this poem clearly is making that statement. The title however is not quite enough to portray exactly what it is that we are being called back from. When we are sleeping, our souls become part of a peaceful and pure realm. In contrast the waking world is full of stress and undesirable challenges, a world in which the soul has no desire of being part of. Using highly refined diction and structure, Wilbur portrays the contrast between the two worlds and our souls reason for accepting the return to reality. The structure of the poem can be separated in to two parts. The first half describes the souls perception of the surrounding world as its body first begins to wake up. We will write a custom essay sample on Love Calls Us to the Things of This World or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page This is set during the period between true consciousness and the dream world. In this moment reality becomes pure and timeless. In the third line, the author describes the soul ââ¬Å"hanging bodiless and simple. Using this kind of diction to set the tone as a sort of mock-seriousness and creates a sense of suspension and detachment from the world. Still within the beginning of the poem, the tone seems to sway between humor and spirituality. As an example of the humor used, the author writes ââ¬Å"The morning air is all awash with angels. â⬠Still conveying a strong sense of spirituality, this line also serves as a pun towards the angels being described through the hanging laundry just outside of the open window. It also gives the spiritual world a likeness of heaven, full of angels. The humor is in the word choice ââ¬Å"awashâ⬠because it serves a double meaning. The first meaning is that the air is ââ¬Å"fullâ⬠of the angels, and the other meaning is the fact that people ââ¬Å"washâ⬠their laundry to make it clean and fresh again. The first half of the poems diction is well used to describe this spiritual realm. Using such words as, ââ¬Å"calm swellsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"halcyonâ⬠which is a very strong word meaning a peaceful and happy period of the past. The author focuses on giving laundry the personification of angels. Angels being one of the most distinct symbols for spirituality and purity. Throughout the first two stanzas, a strong sense of whimsical and somewhat frail tranquility is given to the reader. The laundry is also a symbol for cleanliness and softness. By the end of the first half the spiritual world is vivid and alive in the readers mind. In the third stanza, there is an abrupt transition from the spiritual world into the physical reality. All of a sudden the author describes ââ¬Å"The terrible speed â⬠in which the angels go back to being just laundry, as if the sleeping person is rapidly pulling out of a dream state. At the end of the stanza the author is using clever diction to describe how sudden reality sets in. The very last line of this half of the poem is very important. It marks the point in which the physical word takes over. Using only three words ââ¬Å"The soul shrinksâ⬠the author is setting more of a disappointing tone. This line describes the ââ¬Å"soulâ⬠and its reluctance to fade back into the physical realm, as well as a transition to the other side of Wilburs contrasting poem. In the last four stanzas Wilbur uses creative diction to convey the souls hesitation to wake up from the peaceful angelic world, and into the contradicting reality of the real world. Line seventeen in a very strong way to portray this ill-received reality. By using the lineââ¬Å"The punctual rape of every blessed day â⬠as a view of the real world, and its unpleasant formality, social pressures and everyday responsibilities. How the roles we must fill take away any sense of wonder and spirituality, leaving our souls ââ¬Å"shrunkenâ⬠. The author gives the mans soul personification in the second stanza. As the soul cries out how it wishes there to be nothing but the simple spiritual side that the sleeping realm offers. These few lines make it as though there is no reason to become part of such a world. However, as the man fully becomes lucid, ââ¬Å"the soul descends once more in bitter love. â⬠Though the the physical world is harsh and unclean compared to spiritual realm of sleep. No matter how ââ¬Å"bitterâ⬠it is, love has become the souls one true purpose for returning. By the last stanza the soul seems to be brimming with compassion and love. Even though the spiritual world has been left to sleep, there are other ways to bring that sense of peace to such a contradicting reality and its inhabitants. In the last stanza, each line describes love and mercy, setting a hopeful tone. The author is combining the two worlds with love, by clothing the unworthy and letting people go ââ¬Å"fresh and sweetâ⬠. This shows that there is still hope for the dreary souls of humanity, as long as we try our best to have love. The fact that the spiritual world was strongly associated with laundry is important because this offers a chance for the physical world to have a sense of connection with the spiritual world. To solidify the comparison of the spiritual soul and the physical world. Wilbur ends the poem with the line ââ¬Å"Keeping their difficult balance. â⬠Meaning that each side would not be able to exist without the other. This poems ability to bring such a descriptive comparison between spirituality and physical reality is based on the authors use of diction and structure. The journey the soul takes in this poem from one realm to the next is very moving. Making one think about what our true purpose on this earth is and how we can keep our souls from shrinking. This poem by Richard Wilbur sheds a whole different light on the simple act of waking up.

Teaching at Private versus Public Schools
Teaching at Private versus Public Schools Teaching jobs fall in both the public and private sectors. Deciding where to concentrate a job search raises questions for a lot of new teachers. Though similarities exist between public and private schools, several factors affect the overall teaching experience and deserve your consideration before you accept a position. Student Base in aà Private vs. Public School The law requires public schools to admit all students, without discrimination. Taxes fund public schools, but different districts receive different levels of funding, affecting the available resources in a classroom, among other things. Private schools charge tuition and typically use a selective admissions process. The price of attendance often becomes a factor in determining the socio-economic makeup of the student body, although some private schools offer scholarships to students with demonstrated financial need. Because of limited funds and a lack of mandates, teachers encounter fewer special needs students in private schools than in public schools, so if you specialized in special education, you might not find many available positions in the private sector. Government Oversight and Curriculum The government wields less power over the day-to-day administration of private schools since they do not receive tax dollars. In public schools, state mandates largely determine the subjects offered; private schools maintain much greater leeway in the curriculum standards they use. Further, public schools must use state-mandated standardized tests to measure learning while private schools can choose to use these or their own tests. Some private schools provide religious instruction along with academics and may be closely aligned with a church, synagogue, mosque or other religious institution. While public schools can teach students about religion in a civic or historical context, its against the law for public school educators to teach the tenets of any one religion. Teacher Education Public schools requireà certain credentials for teachers including certification and specific degrees. Private schools have much greater leeway. Therefore, teachers in private schools may not have certifications or specific degrees to teach in their subject areas. Class Size and Student Discipline States try to keep class size down, but overcrowded schoolsà and a lack of teachers and funding make it difficult in many districts. Private schools often promote their small class sizes as an advantage over public schools. Further, because of a greater amount of parental involvement and more leeway when dealing with classroom discipline, private schools teachers find it easier to remove disruptive students from classes and the school itself. It takes a pretty serious offense to get a student permanently removed from the public school system. Pay A private school teacher can find many pros and cons, but pay may be the biggest negative.à Private school teachersà generally earn less than their public school counterparts, with teachers at parochial schools at the lowest end of the salary range.à Teacher salariesà at private schools comeà out of student tuition. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, private school teachers on average earn $10,000 ââ¬â $15,000 less than a comparable public school teacher.

A Review of the White Houses Blog on Native Americans Essay
A Review of the White Houses Blog on Native Americans - Essay Example The White House has an official web site, and in it, one can find the blog on Native Americans. The blog is undoubtedly maintained by the government, thus its contents are expected to have been approved by the Palace. Indeed, when I visited the blog thrice on March 18, 20, and 22, I read articles that seemed like press releases by the government. The blog features articles on the protection of rights of Indian tribes in America. Maintained by the government, one can assume that the blog does not contain any taboo themes that can cause damage to the image of the White House. Rather, the blog helps project a reputable image of the President and his governance. The blog contains articles written by different people but most of them are employed under the government. One of the contributors is Milford Wayne Donaldson, the chairman of Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP). On March 20, Donaldson wrote about the plan of the ACHP to adopt UNââ¬â¢s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People. This will benefit the indigenous people because the declaration gives right to indigenous people to protect their heritage places or sites. This means that if there are propositions to alter a heritage site, authorities will have to consult first with indigenous people before undergoing any action. An earlier post dated March 7 talks about the signing of the President of the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013. Jodie Gillette and Charlie Galbraith (2003) posted this article, complete with a video of the whole program. The video shows the people who attended the signing of the act and the speech of the President as regards the importance of womenââ¬â¢s rights. The article also reports relevant information about violence done on Native American women. According to it, a recent study found out that 46% of Native American women suffered from violence such as rape, physical abuse and assault. With the approval of the act, the authors assume that Native American women will be more empowered to take on the challenge to report any violence they encounter. Another post by Jodie Gillette talks about the tribal leadersââ¬â¢ convention held on December 5, 2012. This rather late post was made on March 18 to report on the details of the long-finished convention. One good thing about the post is that it includes links to other posts such as Tribal Law and Order Act, Violence Against Women Act, and others. On one hand, the links help visitors to understand the related issues further. On the other, it helps students and authorities document reports with necessary information surrounding the issue. Clearly, the blog addresses the general public, including Americans and other nationalities who will be visiting the blog. In particular, students engaged in Native American research will benefit greatly from the important information offered in the blog. Native American s also benefit from it as they read about government programs to protect their rights and culture. Moreover, authorities will be kept updated on government actions for Native Americans and tribal people. Overall, the blog promotes the image of the White House as it features the good deeds of the government, especially the president. Specifically, the articles in the blog reflect the concern of the White House for the Native Americans. Given the topics in the blog and the organization it

Diaspora Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Diaspora Assignment - Essay Example Croatian people have been dominant in many fields in the Australian society, especially in the sporting arena where they have made such a great impact by comprising the majority players in most Australian football clubs. This paper provides a critical analysis of the Croatian diaspora in Australia, development of media in the Croatian diaspora community in Australia, and examples of how media compares and contrasts to mainstream media on same key issues in the community, among other things. History of the Diaspora The concept of the diaspora grew out of the historic experience of scattering Jews outside their native lands and it implies that a whole community, usually a nation inhabiting a compact territory, underwent a forced dispersion. This concept was made popular in the sociology of migration in the 1990s and the relationship between the scattered communities and the homeland is crucial in defining the diaspora (Raggazi, 2009, p. 1). The homeland for immigrants is a source of id entity, in addition to being their source of values and loyalty; it can be generally understood that every diaspora is a migrant community because of the consciousness of belonging to a common nation and/or a distant homeland and acting upon this consciousness that eventually defines the diaspora. Diasporas are normally connotations of historically enduring strong emotional ties to the homeland, usually concerning some historical injustice that needs redress (Colic-Peisker, 2008, p. 158); the Croatian Diaspora in Australia was in response to the Yugoslav crisis of the 1980s and the war for independence and its aftermaths. The typical feeling of a lost homeland and tragic exile among the immigrants and the need to redress the historic grievances felt by a majority of the Croatian emigres led to the rise of diasporic transnationalism (Colic-Peisker, 2008, p.158). The emigres assumed leadership of Croatian communities outside Croatia and focused on the fight for Croatian independence f rom the communist Yugoslavia, and by 1991 when Croatian independence was confirmed by the failure of communism, Croatian emigres all over the world were known as an intensely politicized diaspora dominated by nationalist leaders. The most vocal part of the Croatian Diaspora in Australia had intensely emotional and political connection to the homeland, and its pronouncement of anti-communism and separationist agenda made it a clear-cut case of long-distance nationalism. The Croatian diasporic nationalism had two peaks: the 1970s after the Croatian Spring, Yugoslav Communist authorities had suppressed a Croatian nationalist movement in 1971, and during the war for Yugoslav succession in 1991ââ¬â1995, which politically mobilised a large number of Croats in Australia. Development of Media Media development in the Croatian Diaspora in Australia has been stifled by lack of freedom of the press and the successive ongoing media manipulation that seeks to limit the influence of media bot h in the diaspora and in the homeland. In the old Yugoslavia, the Communist government controlled media and the Croatians knew only a limited range of information, and up to date, the Croatian media is not yet free and impartial. For instance, Karolina Vidovic, a Croatian journalist whose programme has been
